Medicare Advantage Plans 

Medicare Advantage Plans (MAPD), also known as Medicare Part C, are different than Medicare Supplement Plans. Members with a Medicare Advantage Plan get their benefits from a private insurance company instead of Original Medicare; therefore you will provide your Advantage Plan ID card at the time of treatment rather than your Medicare card.

Medicare Advantage Plans combine hospital insurance, medical insurance and prescription drug coverage into one plan. For those individuals who have credible prescription drug coverage already in place, (such as through Veteran's Administration), there are Medicare Advantage Plans that do not include drug coverage called MA Only Plans. Members of Medicare Advantage Plans will use one card for hospital, doctor, and prescription drug visits.

Medicare Advantage plans have a network of doctors you must use for medical care, and some plan networks are more strict than others. With an Advantage plan, you will have out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles, copays & coinsurance, for approved services up to the maximum out-of-pocket (MOOP) given for the plan you selected.

Medicare Advantage Plans may be a good option for those who:

• Are on a limited budget

• Don't mind having a network of doctors and hospitals

• Don't mind paying some copays or coinsurance
